What dress to wear?

No doubt if you’re anything like me, you’re always stressing about what to wear to the latest wedding. And of course you can’t wear the same dress that you wore to the last wedding, people might see the photos on Facebook! (sarcasm, but true in my case!). Being a guest is an honour, and you don’t want to take away from the bride or her big day. So, in my opinion, that rules out anything in the range of white to cream as a solid colour dress. Leave that to the bride.

So what’s hot this summer?

Summer’s already here, so whats your hot tip for summer wedding attire? No doubt there are some stunning beach weddings planned, and outdoor ceremonies to be had.

Here’s some on trend suggestions if you need some inspiration.

SEMI FORMAL / BEACHY / CASUAL
Sass & Bide, Country Road and Witchery are home to some great staple dresses for any wedding occasion. Here are a few currently in season.

FORMAL / BLACK TIE

Zimmermann do a a similar style dress worth checking out.

Long gowns are particularly appropriate for black tie weddings, and this season I’m loving Zimmermann’s silk sunray waterfall maxi. It comes in a few colours and is reasonably priced, so if you have a few black tie events coming up, invest in a well made dress this season!

Despite what people say, wearing a black dress to a wedding is completely appropriate. So find one you feel comfortable in and bring it to life with the right accessories. My favourite LBD at the moment is a Rachel Gilbert creation.

Overall, my top tip is dress to impress. There’s nothing worse than feeling under-dressed at a wedding, so make an effort and don’t be afraid to embrace some colour! And of course don’t forget to accessorize.

Stay tuned for a follow-up post with some examples of wedding guest outfits from some recent weddings I’ve attended.
